Artist Statement
I am a Ceramic Artist based in Fresno, California, licensed General Contractor, and certified Biology and General Science Teacher. My ceramic murals reflect my deep connection with the natural world, my commitment to community built projects, and my integration of art with construction. Through my work, I hope to bring to others a similar sense of reverence, respect, community, and beauty.
My bas relief murals are made of hand cut geometric tile pieces that fit together like a puzzle. The murals tell stories. I use form to define space and color to explore time. The inspiration for my murals comes from the Japanese artist Katsushika.
Receiving the Emerging Artist Fellowship from the California Arts Council in 2023 was a career highlight as an artist. My community built ceramic murals are at various Fresno locations: Butterfly Gardens Housing Development (2023); University High (2022-24); and Manchester GATE (2020/22). My private commission murals are in various Fresno homes. I received 3rd place and honorable mention at Arts in Agriculture (2024, 25)
Receiving congressional awards for a historic home restoration in Fresno’s Tower District was a career highlight as a General Contractor. As a teacher, I developed units integrating art and science. I currently teach ceramics at University High, and plant endemic/endangered valley oaks at Fresno Unified schools.
I am deeply committed to using art to define the public sphere. My community built public art, historic building restorations, ceramic teaching, and valley oak reforestation efforts all reflect these values. I bring extensive experience collaborating with architects, contractors, artists, designers, students, and the public. Together we can build ceramic murals that both creates an uplifting atmosphere and guides a conversation of environmental stewardship.
