Community Build

I am a certified Ceramic Artist, licensed General Contractor, certified Biology and General Science Teacher. My community built bas relief ceramic murals reflect my deep connection with our natural world. I am a strong proponent of community built art. When people create large art projects together, community is built, and several of my aspirations as an artist are achieved:

a. When the public has voice and influence in their communal spaces, pride is built. As a permanent installation, mural participants will have the opportunity see their work prominently displayed in the public sphere. Family members, visitors, friends will all know of the contribution the builders made to their community.

b. The creation and duration of the public sphere by local citizens is what defines a region. When citizens are involved in creating shared space, they are more likely to care for their public environments. These residents will make a significant contribution to their communal living space.

c. Where citizens take pride and ownership of the commons, beauty thrives. Beauty begets location desirability, business investment, and increased aesthetic living standards.

d. Community members engage with one another to solve problems while working towards a mutual goal. Participants collaborate to find solutions. Collaboration builds strong communities.
